This lens is simple and has no hidden surprises. It does simple things and do them extremely well. It’s dirt cheap but it’s cheap not because it’s shitty but because Nikon has been making it and making it the same way for the past decades. Excellent in low light, bokeh is very beautiful and it’s good for portraits. It’s still the sharpest of all my lenses by a wide margin and also the cheapest. If you have all day to set up but want something to appear absolutely excellent, then this lens is a very small price to pay for that result.

Again do not be deceived by its cheap price, its small size and its unimpressive 52mm filter diameter size. This is simply the sharpest lens I have. Being also full-frame lens, it serves as a very good backup lens to carry around everywhere especially since it’s so light. So you can pop it on when you have time to snap that perfect shot or when it’s too dark to use the other lenses.

The construct is average. Do get a UV or NC filter since the first glass element is very recessed and the area before it is a big dust collector. Despite having a mechanically driven focus mechanism, it’s faster and more quiet than most lenses. The mount is still metal however despite its low price.
